Heading into the 2018 season, the Scituate High School football team had high hopes.

The Sailors were coming off a big season where they made it to the MIAA Div. 5 South Sectional Final and gave eventual state champion Dennis-Yarmouth a scare in a game that came down to the final minutes.

While Scituate lost that game, the Sailors were the only team that actually put up a real fight against the Dolphins.

Scituate lost on Thanksgiving at Fenway Park, but were missing quarterback Aidan Sullivan, who was out with an injury.

Both of those games, along with a tough loss to Pembroke early in the season turned out to be big factors in the team’s 12-1 State Championship season in 2018.

According to Sullivan, the Pembroke loss was a wakeup call, even though it was played in a massive downpour, and the result was coach Herb Devine giving him more control of the offense and challenging him to be that leader.
